MUJER_KLÓRICA

MUJER_KLÓRICA
A folk reality.
Since flamenco has been recognized as “Oral Heritage of Humanity” we consider the realization of a project like ‘MUJER_KLÓRICA’ of vital importance.
Mujer_Klórica is based on two essential pillars: women and the opening of traditions to new cultural models.
Mujer_Klórica shows socio-cultural problems related to women, using a careful selection of ‘palos’ (Flamenco music style) that demonstrate the leading role women have held to preserve the family as a social institution through customs and traditions reflected in popular folklore music.
This performance wants to celebrate the evolution the role of women has undergone in the last 25 years in our society. Nowadays, we can perceive/identify a capable, modern woman, fighting more than ever before, a woman ready to face the world openly. Although there is still a long road ahead of us, the distance covered is worth a tribute and a celebration as well.
Mujer_Klórica intends a necessary modernisation of Spanish musical folklore by adding freshness in their show and setting it in a more modern context.
“How can we keep together so much culture, so much diversity, so many people, so many feelings in just two words! How can we capture the happiness, the pain and the crying of generations and generations in only two sentences to finally express, in a universal code, a cry of hope and justice that sets apart from those who sell fear to generate hate.”
Lamine Thior (SENEGAL)
Mujer_Klórica. (A real folk fact) Mujer_Klórica is social.

LOVE AND RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY.
One of the main objectives of Mujer_Klórica is to accomplish a social role in a practical way. We are trying to get cultural aids of social impact to carry out workshops directed to groups at risk of social exclusion and marginalisation, transmitting the message of equality and diversity through such primitive skills as music, dance and “El Cante” (Andalusian folk song). Mujer_Klórica takes these elements as tools in order to go beyond their specific artistic dimension, trying to encourage the use of arts and culture as instruments of social intervention and transformation.

MUJER_KLÓRICA LIVE: “Cante” (Andalusian folk music), poetry, contemporary dance and contemporary flamenco music. All these ingredients, sweetened by a mature gypsy voice that, audacious at the same time, bring us closer to the purity of the folk reality in a and avant-garde way.
The play can be performed in almost any stage, giving the possibility of being played by a trio, quartet and quintet... up to the complete stage with seven members.
“There’s no fair problem that that cannot be finally set out in all its intensity and what is important is to persevere tirelessly...
Birth, sex, social class, wealth, political ideas, and religious beliefs should not be foundation of privilege.

*Folk act:
1. It has to be transmitted orally.
2. It has to be an anonymous work.
3. It has to be collective heritage of the representative community where this fact takes place.
4. It hast to be functional, that is to say, it has to have some pragmatic usefulness or to fulfill a ritual purpose.
5. It has to be an everlasting, not perishable fact in a considerable length of time, as opposed to a passing fad.
6. It has to have numerous varieties, that is to say, there should not be an official version of the fact but it should be reformulated whenever it emerges.
7. There are city and rural models, without being necessarily one better than the other.
8. It hast to be unifying, that is to say, to belong or to found a category, trend, style, genre or type.

Mujer_Klórica springs from the heart of a feeling, from the need to transmit and love of music and flamenco. After years of personal research, life made me a chance to say all the things I have defended on the battlefield by singing.

As joy to sadness
as love to heartbreak
as water for chocolate
As Manuel for me to be,
all this is Mujer_Klórica for us.

I want to remember the land, the people who gave me being who I am, when I sing. Of the women who were example of tireless struggle for centuries in many worthy causes. Of the men who show kindness and wisdom to be part of a society that cries balance and awareness.

To get it before us, it was necessary to follow the example of some people and situations that fill my Pandora's box and a great book that helped me put words to my thoughts "Women's Vote and I, my mortal sin" Clara Campoamor .
My sister, my grandmother, the tenderness of motherhood guilty in jail immigrants crossing the strait daily, hypocrisy arrives unannounced, economic independence, the father figure in the home, honesty and honor of women the neverending love of the one who sleeps and a glass of wine are part of Kloricosa´s life matters and the content of this cd.
We had the pleasure of enjoying the company of great artists during the recording and each and every one of them will be forever in my heart. They brought music and more to this project that it fed of love and professionalism of all who were involved and made possible his birth.
I do not care at all labels even claim there is any role but I think that's the cause that occupies my life and I want to take responsibility. Singing heals and soothes the soul. By singing I want to be the politician attributed to me when I was a child, in some other conversation.
We´ll travel with roundtrip ticket as a Guajira throught this present we live in Spain and in other parts of the world, we´ll meet the Manola, walking through the solea, fandango, bulerías, Almeria´s Cartagenas and Tarantos, alboreás, bamberas, vidalita, songs from countryside and lullabies, all interpreted with respect and freshness, giving place to the tradition and opening new paths to our infinite plan, which just wants to give music to the world.

CD Sinopsis
"The Guajira of the Deafs" is a testament to the current social and political situation in Spain and tells how the future and education of new generations are again in danger.
"The Manola," a heart in a heartless world. We were inspired by a local singer called Corruco of Algeciras and the "bad life" that some people are living rigth now.

The Solea "The sailer of a dream" from la Maestra sevillana to Pepe Pinto (her partner and flamenco singer) are the reference that guides me throught León´s planet for composition that raises as unique personality.

The Fandangos de Huelva "My breath" reflect the courage of reason and gives the place the woman deserves within the literary context, which sometimes does not apply in the lyrics of traditional flamenco.

"Sham" (Bulerías) comes joking so that is the origin of bulerías and talks about disappointments. The truth is only a moment in a falsehood sea. It is women who give life in prison, the protagonists of La Cartagenera de Chacon and El Taranto de Almeria "Smells of marjoram" which we had the honor of sharing with Carmen Linares, our teacher and friend.

Some of these “palos” are directly related to the female figure, others however, are attributed to the male . We do think that nobody belongs to nobody and the purest is the feeling that comes out, comes from whoever comes . So to defend the honor and honesty of women we use the Alboreá (virginity´s celebrating singing ) and bamberas (created by Pastora Pavón " Niña de los peines " one of the most important flamenco female figures ) in "A New society " .
This is an important standard in the entire repertoire of Mujer_Klórica , try to stop working against some others and contribute positively with the intention of making a call of attention to social problems that sometimes come to cost lives.

The Vidalita " Vidalikia " is a vivid reflection of this thought also was originally created during the migration of Spanish people to South of America. They mixed their cultures wisely . The “Cantes del Campo” " Padre y Segao " ( Trilla, Aceitunera and Arriera ) are responsible of representing masculine tenderness and sensitivity in the home.

Nana de Manuel ( lullaby ) will complete this journey. As there´s no punishment without joy or happiness without penalty, will be for our finale party , Adela .. A “couplé por bulerías”.

No fair problem arises in all its intensity at the end
and what matters is relentlessly persevere.
No privilege shall be grounds;
birth,
sex,
social class,
wealth,
political ideas,
religion ...

A great and committed work that reflects the new spirit of the times and let us look forward to a very optimistic way . Also Alicia Carrasco and his guitarist José Manuel León belong to the Internet generation , wanting nothing less than removing the world . They call folklore, but it is vanguard.
The first song already evokes " A new society " in this present deaf. Everything revolves around the role of women in society ( Modern ). Suddenly a rolling bass make us crazy, an strident trompet and some twisted chords. Through these musical elements Alicia shows us an unstable Spanish society. Nothing is as it was . León who sharpened our ears in 2007 with " Sirimusa " boldly fuses different styles coming from a jazz and intellectual way , but we still speaking from the stomach and heart , this is a boatload of Alice captures it all bravely and with your personal style permeates this piece also is accompanied by a performance open knowingly denouncing anything is possible , from a trio to a larger cast and contemporary dance . The project is flanked at a photographic exhibition . In the CD we can find portraits of the Spanish women as different as the country itself : the broken and plaintive sound of flamenco softens convincing cry of the modern woman.
A great and committed workforce that reflects the new spirit of the times and let us look forward to a very optimistic way.
